Two Days with Eddie Glew
17th and 18th May 2018 (Thanks to Sue Read for taking the photos for us)
It was a very enjoyable and productive two days with Eddie Glew at our recent two day course – to make a round fitched shopping basket. Held at the Whiddon Down Village Hall, this was the second course brought to us from Eddie and members came from Cornwall and Somerset, as well as Devon.
As with the previous course these two days were well attended and had Eddie working alongside members to teach the techniques. Based in Staffordshire, Eddie brought all the materials needed and members were treated to a display of his work as well.

Breton Button Basket with Richard Kerwood
13th September 2018
Report and photos from Carol Horsington and Sarah Le Breton In September I attended the Breton Basket course which Richard ran at Windrush Willow. Richard has researched the method for this basket and gave us detailed notes on dimensions and how to make the jig which they are worked on. The basket is started off with a small ring of willow, the ‘button’, and the stakes are inserted in to this. The baskets quickly grew and we all made one of the larger sizes. It ended up being quite a physical basket to make but easily completed in a day, with two people on the course having never made a basket before.
The basket was great fun to make and I hope Richard runs another one, as there is an alternative method which can be used to make a similar basket which I am keen to learn. Thanks to Richard and Sue for their hospitality. My basket has been put to good use harvesting apples as we have had a bumper crop! Carol Horsington And for Sarah Le Breton the Breton Button Basket making workshop was a personal day for her. Being a tutor herself Sarah tells us that it was a pleasure to be instructed for once. ‘And I really enjoyed my day being taught by Richard, and love my finished basket!’
